The ruler Nicolás Maduro affirmed that the dialogue on electoral conditions will not be limited to the conversations held with the Unitary Platform in Mexico. In the coming days, he hopes to activate the social dialogue tables – paralyzed since 2020 – with the Democratic Alliance, Neighborhood Force and other political actors such as Antonio Ecarri, from Alianza del Lápiz
The ruler Nicolás Maduro asserted this Wednesday, November 30, that he will soon begin talks “with all the oppositions” in Venezuela, where he plans to condition that the next presidential elections -scheduled for 2024- be “free” of sanctions imposed by the United States and countries of the Union European.
In a Press conference From the Miraflores Palace, the president said that they will activate new dialogue tables “to visualize the electoral scenario and agree on the guarantees” for free and fair elections.
“Do you want free elections? fair and transparent? Free elections and without sanctions at the time that the Constitution determines it, “said the president, who reiterated that more than 600 sanctions weigh on Venezuela, which especially impact the economic and oil sector.
He assured that they will speak with the representatives of the Unitary Platform, with whom they maintain the negotiation in Mexico, “but first we have to see if they comply with the agreement. With the Democratic Alliance we have permanent dialogue and we are going to reactivate the inclusive dialogue table. He also hopes to meet with Antonio Ecarri, president of Alianza del Lápiz, and the Fuerza Vecinal party.
According to the Constitution and Venezuelan laws, the National Electoral Council (CNE) is responsible for planning and publishing the electoral calendar for upcoming processes, an issue that Maduro assured he respected. The guarantees for fair and democratic presidential elections will be discussed in the negotiations in Mexico, where only the ruling party and the Unitary Platform participate.
Meanwhile, the Unitary Platform is organized for a primary process, which they hope will take place in the first semester of 2023, and choose its candidate. The National Commission of Primaries, in charge of organizing the event, has not yet informed if they will allow the participation of the representatives of parties prosecuted by the Supreme Court of Justice.
