Santo Domingo.- The Minister of the Presidency, Joel Santos Echavarría, said Tuesday that relations between the United States and the Dominican Republic are “stronger than ever.”
“Everything is going perfectly normal. The relationship between the United States and the Dominican Republic is stronger than ever, the minister said.
the official argued that the United States is an important partner and vice versa.
“They are important partners and we are important partners for them. We will continue to understand each other even if we have differences,” he said.
The official spoke to the press about the issue after being questioned about the differences that the United States has had with the country on the Haitian issue.
Last week, the United States prohibited shipments of sugar from Central Romana from entering that country, alleging that this company subjects its workers to forced labor, who in the case of sugar production are mostly Haitians.
The announcement was made public days after the US embassy issued a statement in which it attributed to Dominican migration officials allegedly mistreating US citizens of color upon arrival at the airport because they allegedly confuse them with Haitians.

“They are processes, we cannot expect things to change overnight,” said the minister regarding the crime that plagues the country.
He assured that the Government continues to work towards greater security.
“Citizen security issues are a process, there are many things that the Government continues to work towards greater security. Yesterday there was talk of the quadrant strategy that will start in the central polygon on Friday”.
Likewise, he said that the Government continues the process of training the police and granting them greater facilities.
