War and inflation undermine business confidence in the world

The confidence survey published quarterly by the organization, which indicates business expansion above 100 and contraction below that figure, stood at 96.2 points, 3.8 less than in the previous measurement (100).

The indicator fell to lows below 90 at the beginning of 2020, due to the covid pandemic, but it had been above the 100 threshold last year and has returned to below it in several measurements in 2022.

According to the WTO, commercial distrust follows the line of the forecasts of the organization itself, which in October predicted that the increase in exchanges would slow down from 4.7% in the second quarter of 2022 to 3.5% at the end of this year and 1% in 2023.

The barometer is made with the average of six sub-indices, of which only one, that of trade in the automotive sector, showed expansion (103.8 points), benefited from the strong demand in the United States and the improvement in production in Japan, due to the reduction of bottlenecks in the supply chain.

However, both the export order (91.7) and air cargo (93.3) and electronic component trade (91), container shipping (99.3) and commodity trade (97.6) sub-indices all indicated contraction. ).
