Aquino no longer goes to the Licey; will play in Japan

Outfielder Arístides Aquino concluded his participation with the Licey Tigers, after signing a contract with the Chunichi Dragons in the Japanese Professional Baseball League.

Aquino’s deal is for $1.2 million plus a $300,000 incentive.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network was the first to announce the contract of the former Cincinnati Reds outfielder.

It’s possible Aquino will perform strong enough in Japan to attract new major league interest in the future.

Arístides participated in 20 games with the blue team, in which he hit three home runs and drove in a total of 17 runs.

Aquino joins Orlando Calixte, who also earned a contract with the Chunichi Dragons. The Águilas Cibaeñas patrolman will be with the team until December 10.
