The Minister of Agriculture, Cecilia López Montaño, participated in the political control debate held in the Second Commission of the House of Representatives, on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United States.

The official pointed out that they should replace imports and generate more exports. “Colombia needs to increase its exportable supply. With the dollar at these levels it would have been necessary to be able to respond quickly to international demand. There are good export opportunities in products such as: Tahiti lime, Hass avocado, blueberries, cape gooseberry and some proteins such as trout and tilapia“, said.
With the FTA, exports to the North American country have improved, between 2012 and 2021, of products such as: Tahiti lime US$44 million, avocado US$13 million, blueberries US$4 million, and cape gooseberry US$4 million, as well as proteins such as trout and tilapia at US$92 million and US$427 million, respectively.

And he stressed that, for the transformation of the Colombian countryside, work is being done on three main issues.
