Foreign Minister Carlos Faría assured that Venezuela promotes as part of its policies a management to attend to migrants and “that further favors the regular stay, the inclusion and integration of foreigners.” From the Congress of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), he justified that the increase in Venezuelan migration from 2015 was due to economic warfare and sanctions
On November 29, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Carlos Faría asked the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for its cooperation and technical assistance to “modernize” support policies for migrants entering the country, as well as for Venezuelans to guarantee a return “safe and orderly”
“We hope to have the cooperation and technical assistance of the IOM, so that they support us in strengthening our internal and consular capacities and constructively assist Venezuelan migrants, especially in the safe and orderly return,” said the official, quoted in a press releaseafter his participation in the 113th IOM Congress.
Faría explained that, recently, the Government created a National Migration Commission that seeks to “update, modernize and strengthen migration policies” in the territory, as well as “the care of our migrants where they are.”
In addition, he promised that the country will contribute to the “strengthening” of the IOM, the implementation of policies, as well as “better agreements” in favor of migrants.

The foreign minister reiterated to the Organization Venezuela’s willingness to dialogue and cooperation, “based on solidarity between the countries of emission, transit, destination and return.” The Maduro administration also advocated “the non-commodification of migration”, as well as “the non-politicization” of United Nations agencies and organizations in the field of migration.
According to Faría, Venezuela promotes as part of its policies a management to “address migratory phenomena that further favors the regular stay, the inclusion and integration of foreigners in Venezuelan society from the moment they enter the border.”
The foreign minister reiterated the Maduro administration’s discourse on sanctions, and in this case their impact on migration. He asserted that since 2015 “the economic war, the political blockade and the aggressive measures against Venezuela have systematically induced an economic migration of our compatriots who today return voluntarily to our homeland after false progress.”
Venezuela has received millions of migrants for decades without discrimination, without xenophobia, with full integration and great opportunities for economic prosperity. Today we continue to be a safe home for millions of migrants who have contributed to our development.

A few days ago, the Special Commission to Investigate Crimes Against Venezuelan Migrants Abroad presented a report to the National Assembly dominated by the PSUV, where it ensures that the country’s migration does not respond to socioeconomic reality, hyperinflation, insecurity or the recession sustained from 2013 to 2021, but was the product of an attack with neuroscience to encourage Venezuelans to emigrate.
