President Luis Abinader met with the Gen. Laura J. Richardsoncommander of the United States Southern Command and addressed the cooperation and security efforts between both nations.
The meeting took place at the end of the investiture of the Sixty-first Promotion of Cadet of the Army of the Dominican Republic, at the Batalla de Las Carreras Military Academy.

Castro Marte warns about “snipers” against citizen security plans
The Bishop of the Diocese of La Altagracia, jesus castro martehe thundered against those he called “snipers” who want to frustrate the citizen security plans that the authorities have put in place, for which he urged the population to fight against pessimism in order to move forward for the benefit of the country.
“In the Dominican Republic, firm steps are being taken towards citizen security, which is reflected in the continuous arrival of tourists to the country in record numbers”he said when giving the blessing at the opening ceremony of the International Seminar on Citizen Security and Postcovid Coexistence in Latin America, which is held at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), in which representatives from eight countries participate.
He highlighted the efforts of Ministry of the Interior and the National Policewho have announced decisive measures for security in the country, with the increase in patrolling and the presence of agents in the neighborhoods, where they talk to people.

“It is fair to appreciate the great unity that is observed between the minister Jesus Vasquez and the director of the Police, Major General Eduardo Alberto Thenwhich has won the support of academic sectors such as the UASD and other universities, which play an important role in academic training for police reform”, he indicated.
He called for that same unity to shine in each of the sectors of the country, that there is no personal concept, but that what is important is the preparation and support of all, businessmen, authorities and people of good will, we are going to build a country quiet, safe, where airs of peace and healthy coexistence can be breathed.
The seminar continues this Wednesday in the Manuel Cabral auditorium of the Pedro Mir Library of the UASD.
On his side, the rector of the house of higher studies, Editrudis Beltrán, when pronouncing the welcoming words of the act, valued as positive the efforts that the Government has been making in an attempt to improve citizen security for the benefit of the country, and the healthy coexistence, which translates into benefits for merchants, businessmen and other sectors of national life, especially tourism.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the UASD for police reform carried out by the Ministry of the Interior and Police, for which it plans to provide teachers for the training of teachers at the Police Institute, and which manages three thousand undergraduate scholarships and other training.
