The municipality of Campinas, in the interior of São Paulo, has been registering an increase in dengue cases in recent weeks. The increase in notifications has occurred since October, reaching 347 cases by the 13th of this month. Throughout the year, the city accounts for over 11,100 confirmed cases of the disease. However, the highest number of infections was in April and May.
Last week, the city of Campinas issued an alert for the high risk of transmission of the disease in eight neighborhoods: Jardim Alvorada, Jardim Ipiranga, Jardim Novo Campos Elíseos, Jardim São Marcos, Vila Esperança, Vila Santa Isabel, Jardim Maracanã and Jardim Novo Maracanã .
The city hall, which maintains a disease control and prevention program, with waste collection, visits to properties and the application of insecticides in the areas at greatest risk, highlights the importance of the population being attentive and eliminating possible breeding grounds of the Aedes aegyptimosquito that transmits dengue, in homes.
