Palmeiras would announce this Monday (24) the 23 athletes registered for the Club World Cup, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates between February 3 and 12. The International Football Federation (Fifa), however, extended the deadline for clubs to send the list of players to up to two days before the competition’s debut.
According to the Verdão press office, the teams participating in the World Cup were informed of the change through a circular sent by the entity in December. The reason is the increase in cases of the new coronavirus (Covid-19) in the world.
In the case of Palmeiras, the list of subscribers can be informed until February 6th. On the 8th, at 1:30 pm (Brasília time), Abel Ferreira’s team faces the winner of the confrontation between Monterrey (Mexico) and Al Ahly (Egypt) at the Al Nahyan stadium, in Abu Dhabi, for the semifinal of the competition.
The postponement allows Verdão to register players who are eventually hired in the coming days. The team mainly aims to reinforce a striker, since striker Luiz Adriano, in friction with the crowd, is not part of the plans and has been training separately from the group.
If they pass the semi-final, Palmeiras will decide the Club World Cup on the 12th, at 1:30 pm, at the Mohammed Bin Zayed stadium, also in Abu Dhabi, against Chelsea (England), Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia), Al Jazira (United Arab Emirates) or Pirae (Tahiti).
