“They forgot the parking brake”, a couple who wanted to take a ‘selfie’ in the Chicamocha Canyon and the truck went into the abyss

An accident involving a couple and their truck occurred at the Chicamocha Canyon Viewpoint, one of the natural wonders that Colombia has in the department of Santander.

The youths stopped their vehicle near an abyss to observe together the natural landscape of this canyon, the result of the erosion of the river bed generated by the Chicamocha River a few minutes from the municipalities of Piedecuesta and San Gil.

While they were preparing to take a ‘selfie’ for the memory, the vehicle began to move slowly until it picked up more speed down the slope. The couple noticed the movement and tried to stop the route taken by the gray truck. However, it was impossible for them and faced with the danger of being able to fall into the abyss, they gave up their forces and at that moment the vehicle fell into the void.

“Not having placed the parking or safety brake on the vehicle” was the cause of the accident, which fortunately did not leave anyone injured since there were no occupants inside the truck.

The event occurred on the afternoon of Sunday, November 27 and was evidenced in a surveillance camera of the fishmonger sector:

After the fact, the authorities recommend that visitors to the Chicamocha Canyon Viewpoint check their vehicles before getting off since the steep slopes in the area can lead to this type of risk.
