The national strike of cargo carriers continues to wreak havoc on Peruvian foreign trade, affecting exports of various products and in different regions of the country, so that in the future credibility as a reliable world supplier would be lost, said the president of the Exporters Association (ADEX)Julio Perez Alvan.
“In northern regions such as Piura, Lambayeque or La Libertad, the damage is reflected in fresh products such as blueberries, mangoes, bananas, avocados, grapes, among others. It is estimated that between 20% and 25% of production is being lost. Another is Cajamarca, since several companies that collect cocoa in Jaén cannot do so because the route is blocked, losing about US$3 million per week”, he commented.
In the same way, other areas, such as forestry, are also experiencing problems, since shipments run the risk of not arriving within the established deadlines, especially to clients from China, which due to their upcoming holidays (Chinese New Year) are more strict.

“All this crisis will cause an accumulation of stocks pending shipment that will lead to delaying all the programming for December and January. However, the most important consequences would be seen in the future, putting contracts with international clients at risk and affecting the image of our country as a reliable supplier. In addition, let us remember that the export sector employs almost 3 million peoplesaid the guild president.
In reference to the requests of the carriers to reduce the price of fuel, Pérez Alván reiterated that it will depend on one part of the Congress of the Republic, since they must approve the extension of the Fuel Stabilization Law, and on another part of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC).
Along these lines, although the Legislature approved Bill No. 2423/2021, which establishes that international vehicles entering the country comply with current regulations on fuel quality, the president of the Association of exporters, He specified that the strike of the carriers has not yet been adequately addressed, which is why there is still no light that will lead to its lifting.
Likewise, Julio Pérez Alván mentioned that, in the port of Paita, exporters negotiated better rates and cargo reservations with local carriers, however, they are still waiting to meet with representatives of the MTC to see possible solutions. , for which he criticized the ministry’s negligence in scheduling the meeting just for today.
Finally, he questioned the little involvement of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) in this crisis, since the strike of cargo carriers is a problem that affects various sectors, such as exports and imports.
