On November 1, the Vice President of the Republic, Beatriz Argimón, and the Secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado, shared an elegant spot of the campaign that the government bought to defend the Law of Urgent Consideration (LUC), when the campaign for the referendum.

The 25-second audiovisual has music that combines candombe and milonga, and a sober voice repeats without stopping “freedom”, a word that is also sung by a choir in the background. The screen reads that “the LUC reduced the adoption process from 5 years to 18 months”, which is finished off with the word “freedom” in full screen in capital letters. “More opportunities for children. Vote for adoption. Vota no”, concludes the text of the video.

In itself, the way in which Delgado and Argimón shared the spot was misleading, since Delgado commented on Twitter that “with the LUC the adoption process is reduced from 5 years to 18 months. It gives more rights to families and children. Don’t change what is right. Vote for adoption! #VoteNOrepeal”.

The truth is that the article referred to by Argimón and Delgado is not among the 135 that the “Yes” campaign seeks to repeal. Its about article 406, which gave new wording to the Code of Childhood and Adolescence of the year 2004, specifically to its article 142.

The misleading pro-LUC spot shared by Argimón and Delgado defending an article that would not be repealed

The vice president and the right hand of the president shared a spot of the campaign of…

This weekend it transpired that many of the images used in the spots of this pro-LUC campaign could also be considered gruesome, because they do not correspond to film material recorded in Uruguay, but rather are shots purchased in image banks. There are countless companies on the Internet that offer hundreds of thousands of clips that can be purchased and used and are not copyrighted; yes, the same images can appear in other commercials because any person or advertising agency can buy them over and over again.

This situation was warned by the Twitter user @fimparatta (who goes by the name Federico), who made a thread with all the images that were purchased from image services such as Shutterstock, one of the most popular in the world.

For example, this box that appears in the second 0:13, where you can see a policeman who is not Uruguayan, since when you pause in the frame and analyze it you can read that it says “police” in English, and he has a metal plate on his chest that corresponds to police officers from Uruguay. U.S.

“This is not the Euskal or the Parque Posadas”, Federico quipped, inferring that it is also a stock taking that corresponds to a place abroad.

“And there are no factories like this in Uruguay either,” he added:

Of course, these factories appear by quantities in the Shutterstock databases:

At 0:20 of the same spot, a woman wearing a mustard-colored sweater appears, touching her head with her index finger, as if inviting those who see her to think. This shot is also bought abroad:

Another of the images is that of a young woman who appears behind the phrase “freer workers”:

But it seems that “she fights for her rights in shutterstock”, Federico ironically.
