Mayor Carolina Cosse spoke this Sunday about the revocation appeal that the Municipality of Montevideo raised last Friday before the board of the OSE for the Neptuno project. “Now they mess with the water,” he claimed the community leader before a group of militants in the Citizen Assembly of the Casa Grande front sector in Durazno.
“It is an incomprehensible project that has been called Neptune. Poor gods of Olympus, really”lamented Cosse in a presentation in which former senator Constanza Moreira also spoke.
The mayor called on the Durazno militants not to allow themselves to be “involved in false contradictions” such as “interior-Montevideo.” “Do you think that there are two neighborhoods in Montevideo that are the same? The right is always going to try to divide us, let’s not fall into that trap,” she declared.
Cosse maintained that what “unites” the Broad Front “has to be above everything else.” “Let’s not let that put a label on us, because the problems are so enormous that above all we have to have unity, and unity with those who voted for other parties. Because I can’t believe that half of Uruguay thinks it’s okay that they mess with the water, or that there is corruption in the Executive Tower”he claimed.
The commune understands that since “the Arazatí Project aims at the improvement of drinking water supply to the metropolitan system” is legitimized “to participate in all instances of planning, management and control of water resources”, as he wrote in the document submitted to the president of OSE, Raúl Montero.
The mayor requested that the decision is annulled through which is “provided the call for an international public tender to contract the design, construction, financing and maintenance of the Project to Improve the Drinking Water Supply to the Metropolitan System (Arazati Project).
The project was presented by four companies (Saceem, Berkes, Ciemsa and Fast) in October 2020 under a consortium called “Waters of Montevideo” and accepted by the government, which after several changes and a feasibility study, resolved that it will promote it in a modality in which the private will be in charge of construction and maintenance while OSE will be in charge of the operation.
