In the homily this Sunday, November 27, from Santa Agatha Church, in Miami, United States, Monsignor Silvio Baez He urged the parishioners and all the Catholic people not to lose hope and trust that a better world can be built.
Based on the prophet Isaiah, who narrates and describes the decision of the people who believe in God to “climb up the mountain of the Lord”, the hierarch indicated that each person should be encouraged to seek God.

He also stressed that seeking the way to God is done in the midst of difficulties and hostile situations that each society lives. “There is a lot of pain, a lot of failure, a lot of inhumanity. We are discouraged, sometimes sadness dominates us, fatigue breaks us and our weaknesses take away our joy.
In allusion to the political crisis that Nicaragua is going through at the hands of the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, the auxiliary bishop of Managua affirmed that “There are unjust social structures that oppress people and bloody dictatorships that steal the future of the people.”
«Let us not get discouraged, that pessimism does not paralyze us and that the feeling of impotence does not make us fall into defeatism. Let’s cheer up, let’s walk together. There is hope! God is always coming to us”, encouraged the bishop.
message of hope
Returning to the biblical passage, the priest referred “that in reality, it is not the human being who has to climb towards heaven, but it is God who descends to us out of love. We don’t deserve God, we just have to welcome him. God is not conquered, he is expected ».
He also sent a message of hope, stating that a peaceful coexistence is possible “where we do not harm each other. Offensive and hurtful words can become caresses full of compassion and charity, selfishness that humiliates can be transformed into compassionate actions, petty ambitions that divide can become ferments of solidarity and brotherhood.

“Missiles can be turned into schools to educate, war tanks into food for malnourished children, combat planes into dignified hospitals for the poorest,” he added.
In reference to the Police at the service of the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, which is accused of repressing, Báez stated that the repressive agents can “become good people who defend the dignity of the people; iniquitous judges, who hand down spurious sentences, can become defenders of the law and human rights; the oppressors can become brothers and the violent can become builders of peace”.
All of the above can be achieved —according to the priest— if one “walks in the light of the Lord who arrives”. “Jesus does not want us to live asleep in indifference or dominated by pessimism.”
The future may seem dark, the tasks ahead of us are immense, but the Lord is with us to show us the way, to encourage us in difficult moments, to transform us into builders of peace and to preserve us from all evil (…) Let us not tire of fight for a more humane and just society”, concluded Monsignor Silvio Báez.
The words of encouragement and comfort from the exiled priest since 2019 come at a time when the Nicaraguan dictatorship has intensified its repression against Nicaraguans, locking up more opponents, which has forced many to leave the country to protect and save their lives. So far, 12 priests have been imprisoned, including Monsignor Rolando Álvarez.
