The elected president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, expressed his desire to work “side by side” with the president of Bolivia, Luis Arce, and admitted an ideological closeness with former vice president Álvaro García Linera.
This was stated in an interview with the international BBC network in which he referred to his future government.
When asked about the Latin American concert and if he recognizes himself in any of the leftist rulers, Boric replied: “It gives me a lot of hope and I hope to have a job side by side with Lucho Arce in Bolivia, if Lula wins the elections in Brazil with Lula , Gustavo Petro’s experience is consolidated in Colombia. I think that a tremendously interesting axis can be put together there”.
Likewise, the BBC asked him: Do you feel part of the generation of Jacinda Ardern, Sanna Marin, Emmanuel Macron, even Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez? Is there something bigger, other than everyone being under 45?
“I don’t know in detail what the convictions of each one of them are and being the same age doesn’t necessarily indicate something,” he said.

Then he added: “I can say that I have an ideological closeness with García Linera, regardless of his age, or a clear complicity with Podemos in Spain, which has nothing to do with an issue of age, it has to do with the convictions that we have. And I highly value Lula’s experience, but I also try to read Cardoso’s. One cannot set static references”, he added in the interview published this Sunday.
At the end of 2021, Boric and Arce had a telephone conversation and they predict improving relations between both countries, although the issue of the sea has not been mentioned.
“We had a pleasant telephone conversation with the brother president-elect of Chile, Gabriel Boric, with whom we agree on the need to deepen a bilateral agenda that benefits our peoples. Latin American integration is strengthened,” Arce wrote on his Twitter account.
Hours later, Boric replied: “Yesterday I had a very good conversation with the President of Bolivia Luis Arce @LuchoXBolivia. We will work hard to strengthen the relationship with this sister nation. We continue!”
