Eight out of ten Paraguayan women “aged 18 and over” experienced some type of violence in their lives, according to figures from the National Survey on the Situation of Women in Paraguay (Ensimup 2021), presented this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics. (INE).
The study, released within the framework of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, refers to physical, sexual, psychological and economic violence.
The analysis shows that throughout the country 78.5% of women aged 18 and over suffered some type of violence, but the numbers are even more alarming among women aged between between 18 and 29, reaching 86.5%.
The figures on violence against women gradually decrease with increasing age, the study says.
“In the public sphere (educational, labor and community) sexual violence is mainly recorded, including from the mildest forms such as compliments to the most serious such as sexual assault,” the investigation reads.
The results presented by the INE will allow “make visible the prevalence of acts of violence against women” and that “Most of them are not denounced in any type of institution,” which means that “women do not receive assistance in specialized services”.

This research work, presented at a press conference by the national director of the INE, Iván Ojeda, addressed some 4,000 homes in 15 of the 17 departments.
During the presentation of the survey, the Campaign was launched #VisibleViolence, an initiative that seeks to sensitize and raise awareness about situations of violence suffered by women and girls throughout the country.

The campaign is led by the Ministry for Women, together with the Office of the First Lady (OPD) and the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (MITIC).
