The Nicaraguan President, Daniel Ortega sent General Commissioner Adolfo Joel Marenco Korea into retirement this Fridaydeputy director of the National Police and former head of Police Investigation and Political Intelligence.
The police chief’s retirement was made public through a presidential agreement published in the Official Gazette, and two days after the president appointed the now head of the National Police Intelligence Directorate, Zhukov Serrano Pérez, as the new deputy director of that public order institution.
“Order the withdrawal of the National Police, of the General Commissioner Adolfo Joel Marenco Corea, in accordance with article 56, third paragraph, of the Law of Organization, Functions, Career and Special Regime of Social Security of the National Police”, indicates the agreement.
According to a journalistic profile of CONFIDENTIAL, Marenco Corea was the “espionage chief of the repression” in Nicaragua who operated “in the shadows” and “the guardian of the secrets of the presidential couple.”
A man that, from the “intelligence point of view”, he is “the most powerful person in Nicaragua”, after Ortega, Vice President Rosario Murillo, and Néstor Moncada Lau, Security Advisor to the Presidency, assured police sources.
