Ortega sends the general commissioner Adolfo Marenco, deputy director of the Police, into retirement

The Nicaraguan President, Daniel Ortega sent General Commissioner Adolfo Joel Marenco Korea into retirement this Fridaydeputy director of the National Police and former head of Police Investigation and Political Intelligence.

The police chief’s retirement was made public through a presidential agreement published in the Official Gazette, and two days after the president appointed the now head of the National Police Intelligence Directorate, Zhukov Serrano Pérez, as the new deputy director of that public order institution.

“Order the withdrawal of the National Police, of the General Commissioner Adolfo Joel Marenco Corea, in accordance with article 56, third paragraph, of the Law of Organization, Functions, Career and Special Regime of Social Security of the National Police”, indicates the agreement.

According to a journalistic profile of CONFIDENTIAL, Marenco Corea was the “espionage chief of the repression” in Nicaragua who operated “in the shadows” and “the guardian of the secrets of the presidential couple.”

A man that, from the “intelligence point of view”, he is “the most powerful person in Nicaragua”, after Ortega, Vice President Rosario Murillo, and Néstor Moncada Lau, Security Advisor to the Presidency, assured police sources.

In August 2017, the Executive appointed Marenco Korea in charge of the National Council against Organized Crime, a position that allowed him “to have access to the Financial Analysis Unit, the Superintendency of Banks, the General Directorate of Income, the Ministry of the Interior, among other institutions.” It also accesses the registry of the Supreme Electoral Council (CSE) and the Public Registry of Property.

From his headquarters, he also tracks information on social networks. He is aware of all the mentions that they can make against the Government, even his hand is in WhatsApp or Signal group chats. Every day his team monitors the media and journalists They make publications that criticize Ortega, according to the sources.

Every citizen who is of “political interest” has a file that Marenco has been in charge of preparing it,” said a police source.

Marenco is the “sinister arm” of the repressive strategy of El Carmensays the source, and all the information he collects and processes is at the service of the repressive strategy of the regime.

It passes to the financial arm of the Police

Two days ago Ortega appointed the now-retired general commissioner Marenco Corea as a member of the Institute of Social Security and Human Development (Issdhu), in charge of the financial administration of Police pensions and also of the institutions that depend on the Ministry of the Interior.

With the withdrawal of Marenco Korea, there are three deputy directors general in the National Police: Serrano Pérez, José Ramón Avellán Medal and Aldo Martín Sáenz Ulloa.

The police force was founded on September 5, 1979 under the name of the Sandinista Police, replacing the National Guard, as a result of the popular revolution that overthrew the dictator Anastasio Somoza Debayle.

That institution is directed by Francisco Javier Díaz Madriz, a former guerrilla and founder of the Police, and in-law of President Ortega and his wife, Vice President Rosario Murillo.
