One of them is the one carried out by Inmujeres, in which President Lacalle Pou participates. The slogan of this meeting is “No more violence against women. State priority, citizen responsibility”. The director of gender policies of the Ministry of the Interior, Angelina Ferreira, presented the main advances and challenges of the implementation of the response to gender-based violence.
For his part, the president of the Supreme Court of Justice, Jhon Pérez, highlighted the importance of inter-institutional work to achieve a more effective response in access to justice.
“According to the latest survey on the prevalence of violence, 8 out of 10 women have suffered a situation of violence throughout their lives,” said the director of Inmujeres, Mónica Botero. In terms of responses, continues Botero, in the Inmujeres services, we attended more than 18,000 inquiries, both by telephone and in person, from January to September of this year.
Approximately 1.1 million Uruguayans have experienced situations of gender-based violence (GBV) at some point in their lives, according to data from the II GBV Prevalence Survey.
Some 640,000 Uruguayan women have experienced GBV situations by their partner or ex-partner throughout their lives. This prevalence indicates, therefore, that the sphere of violence perpetrated by a partner or ex-partner is the most frequent.
The Inmujeres response system, from January to September 2021, responded to a total of 22,590 inquiries (both by telephone and in person), including referrals, information, first listening, and others. Of these consultations, in the same period, 2,385 women entered the Institute’s psychosocial and legal care services. The telephone guidance service for women in situations of violence, 0800 41 41, which in this administration began to attend 24 hours a day, answered a total of 8,901 calls between January and September of this year.
On the other hand, in the esplanade of the Municipality of Montevideo will work, from 13 to 17, various stalls with activities related to this claim.
