The People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations, Carlos Faría, met this Thursday with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Venezuela, Olorundare Phillip Awoniyi, in order to strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation between both nations.
The information was released by Venezuelan Foreign Minister Carlos Farias, through his account on the social network Twitter.
“With the purpose of giving continuity to the actions entrusted by the president @NicolasMaduro, I had the pleasure of receiving the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in our country, Olorundare Phillip Awoniyi to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and cooperation,” he posted.
Venezuela and Nigeria have maintained diplomatic relations since March 16, 1965, and to date have signed 11 agreements. In addition, there are currently 21 projects under negotiation. The agreements signed deal with the areas of technical and cultural cooperation, the suppression of visas, the fight against drug trafficking, local governments, energy and oil, strategic dialogue, diplomatic academies and political consultations.
As will be recalled, last August the I Mixed Commission between Venezuela and Nigeria, which aimed to expand the bilateral agenda and establish the cooperation roadmap.
On that occasion, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister stressed that Venezuela and Nigeria are two countries “Very similar for many reasons, because of their condition of oil and gas production and because of their condition as fighting peoples, both have achieved the independence of colonies, that must be valued when setting the guidelines of the relationship.”
