MADRID, Spain.- The Cuban regime failed to comply with the housing construction program planned for 2022, according to statements by the island’s own authorities during a meeting of state leaders this week.
As reported by the official media cubadebatewhen evaluating compliance with the Housing program, it was reported that delays are accumulating with respect to the number of properties planned for this year.
“At the end of October, 16,985 houses had been finished, 76% of what was planned for the date,” the information indicates.
Just as it specifies that “the arrears accumulate in the state plan, in the basic housing certificates for vulnerable people who have been granted subsidies, and also in those that are erected by their own effort.”
According to the Cuban authorities, a good part of the construction materials expected to be transferred from the national balance, although it has not been enough, has been delivered, but this does not correspond to the development and completion of more houses.
In this sense, Ramiro Valdés Menéndez criticized that in municipalities where clay (a basic construction material) abounds, more bricks and other wall and roof elements are not produced that allow housing to be built without the use of steel and other modern materials.
For his part, the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, said that “the main concern of the population is housing, but the demands are growing and we have not been able to respond to that demand.”
In 2021, the housing debt of the Cuban Government with the population was greater than 40% in terms of the plan for the delivery of houses.
