In Santa Cruz, the situation of violence against women has not improved. Since the start of the strike due to the census, despite the difficult access to the Casa de la Mujer (where complaints are filed and legal and psychological support is requested), due to the blockades, an average of six cases per day has been attended.
From October 21 to November 20, the Women’s House received 173 complaints of violence in total: 3 for physical violence, 17 for psychological violence, 7 for sexual violence, 13 for street harassment, 16 for cyber bullying, 24 for attention to sexual and reproductive rights, 27 for family processes, 28 for psychological attention, 22 for attention in processes labor, 8 for attention in civil proceedings, 7 for psychological and physical violence (at the same time) and 1 case for psychological and sexual violence (at the same time).
Also in the Casa de la Mujer, in the same period of time, welcomed 17 women as refugees, after being survivors of family violence in their homes. The age of the women who denounced goes from 18 to 52 years; the age of the girl victims is from 4 to 8 years old; and the age of the aggressors ranges between 18 and 63 years, according to the report of the Casa de la Mujer.
For his part, in La Paz, the Minister of Government, Carlos Eduardo Del Castillo, at the “Say no to Violence” meeting, held in La Paz, mentioned that 81 women lost their lives this year and that 49.2% of crimes committed in Bolivia occur within homes, where the main victims are women, boys and girls.
“I also want to tell you that 100% of the reports of violence, 89.6% are crimes committed against women, therefore, it is necessary that we start working and fighting and say once and for all no to violence in our country. Thanks to the work of the Bolivian Police, this year, management 2022, Of all the femicides that were unfortunately committed in the country, 94% of them have been solved. I congratulate the work of the media that have become faithful guardians of the news in the streets, inside homes and that have helped to make visible the work of our Bolivian Police. Let’s not expect toxic or toxic to appear in our relationships, Let’s go to our Police so that we don’t have to suffer violence,” exclaimed Del Castillo.
Since 1981, November 25 has been commemorated as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.in memory of the murder of three activists from the Dominican Republic, the sisters Patricia, Minerva and María Teresa Mirabal, by the regime of the dictator Rafael Leónidas Trujillo.
The World Health Organization reported last year that about one in three women is a victim of violence. The United Nations defines violence against women as “any act of gender violence that results, or may result in physical, sexual and psychological harm to the woman, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty”.
