A strong heat wave shakes Santa Cruz with temperatures ranging between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius (C °), which have caused a greater demand for electricity. On Monday, with 33 degrees, 572 megawatts (MW) were reached. And in the last quarter, on November 18the department registered a demand for 661 MW, according to the Rural Electrification Cooperative (CRE).
During the course of this week and the following week, the heat wave will continue, according to the forecasts of the climate expert, Luis Alpire, the southerly winds prevail all week, with eventual oscillations to the north today Thursday, which will slightly affect the temperatures maximum until reaching until Sunday, from 32 to 37 °C in Andrés Ibáñez and Norte Integrado; from 27 to 31 °C in the Cruceños Valleys; from 32 to 38 °C in Cordillera; and from 33 to 39 °C in the Chiquitania.
From the CRE they indicated that with or without unemployment at this time of year the electricity consumption always increases due to high temperatures. Although the maximum peak of 2022 was registered on January 12 with 668 MW.
“If there is a strike, people stay at home, the children also and that increases the consumption of electrical energy in homes,” they said.
They also suggest reviewing the collection notice where the consumption history of a year comes from to compare the consumption of the current month with that of last year. “On days of unemployment, just as home consumption increases, consumption in offices decreases, businesses and industries that are not working”, they explained from the cooperative.
In this sense, the CRE suggests making efficient use of energy in this age. It indicates that it deals with all claims to the free number 176.
Without cuts and with plans for defaulters
In recent weeks, Montero’s associates had asked the CRE for some considerations for the indefinite strike that is taking place in Santa Cruz in demand for the census.
On this subject, the executives of the cooperative pointed out that they are not making cuts due to late payment and are making interest-free payment plans for the defaulters. reported that, if the ambient temperature continues to rise, there will be consumption peaks that could exceed the record of 697 MW registered two years ago.
Likewise, from the entity they indicated that the use of electrical appliances influences the increase in energy consumptionespecially air conditioners, which is why they urge citizens to make responsible use of them.
Users are used to programming air conditioners at 18 degrees and it is a temperature in which the engine is always running, but if it is programmed at 24 degrees it is pleasant, the environment is cool and the motor stops workingas recommended by the CRE.
