18 Venezuelans died of femicide in Peru

According to data from the Crime Observatory of the Public Ministry of Peru In that country, 674 cases of femicide were registered in the last five years, of which 18 correspond to victims Venezuelan.

Of the 674 deaths, 651 correspond to Peruvian citizens and 23 to foreigners, of which 18 are Venezuelan.

Most of the victims lost their lives at the hands of their partner, ex-partner or family member and more than 30% of the cases occurred inside the family home, details a Press release of the Peruvian Public Ministry.

The data reveals that more than half of the victims of femicide, the most extreme form of gender violence, are women whose ages are between 18 and 24 years (25.5%) and 25 and 34 years (32 ,5%).

46.6% of the cases of femicide were concentrated in the fiscal districts of Lima East (45), Arequipa (43), Lima North (37), Cusco (35), Puno (33), Ayacucho (31), Huánuco (31), South Lima (30) and La Libertad (29).

According to the level of education, the information from the Crime Observatory showed that most of the victims had secondary school studies (34.1% complete and 24.8% incomplete).

While the minority had higher education (complete 1.3% and incomplete 0.7%).

The National Coordinator of the Specialized Prosecutors for Violence Against Women and Members of the Family Group of Peru, Irma Díaz Livaque, said that most victims of femicide have previously suffered other forms of violence, even for many years.

This Friday, November 25, marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
