Government of Colombia and ELN advance in dialogue

This Wednesday the third day of talks was held between representatives of the Colombian Government and members of the guerrilla group called the National Liberation Army (ELN) in the search for an agreement to definitively achieve peace in the neighboring country.

Regarding this activity, which has been taking place since last Monday at the Humboldt del Waraira Repano hotel, Aureliano Carbonell, ELN spokesman, considered that positive steps have been taken so far.

“It has been something positive, we have expectations, and if you look at the joint declaration that was signed on Monday, November 21, between the Colombian government and the ELN delegation, it marks a route, sets a course, sends a positive message, we are going to carry out the maximum efforts to advance the changes in Colombia with a view to peace”, he said.

For his part, the representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) in Colombia, Carlos Ruiz Massieu, thanked the role that Venezuela is playing and the hospitality it has shown to make this dialogue table a reality.

“Colombia and Venezuela are neighboring countries, they share culture, brotherhood, common history and also common problems,” he said.

The High Commissioner for Peace for the Government of Colombia, Iván Rueda, expressed that this peace process will bring good results for the entire region, as well as for the sister nations of the Caribbean.
