Reflection. Cesar Landa, Minister of Foreign Affairsruled on the visit of the High Level Group, sent by the Organization of American States (OAS) to our country, from Sunday 20 to this Wednesday 23 November, in order to analyze the political situation.
During an interview on TV Peru, the foreign minister acknowledged the importance of the meetings held by the OAS mission with the president Pedro Castillothe president of the Congress, Joseph Williamsthe head of the Judiciary, Elvia Barriosthe National Prosecutor, Patricia Benavides, among other representatives of political and social organizations.
“They are going to present to the OAS Permanent Council what they have found regarding strengthening democracy and reestablishing dialogue. The interviews with the president and other entities reflect that our democracy is advancing in a procedural manner seeking dialogue,” he declared last Tuesday.
In this sense, Landa said to wait the reports that the foreign ministers of the OAS will give to the General Assembly “in the medium and short term that guarantee the strengthening of democratic governance, which is essential for our country.”
At another time, he clarified that the OAS does not seek to solve the problems of Perubut if you can “suggest some mechanism” so that it is the Peruvians themselves who can get out of the current crisis.
“The OAS is not coming to say how we should solve our problems. The OAS what it has established, through this group that visits us, is to listen to the parties and then inform the OAS Assembly what it has found so that the OAS can, if necessary, suggest some mechanism, a solution path that we Peruvians should develop”, he narrowed.
OAS Mission calls for dialogue with Peruvian political actors
After holding meetings with high state authorities, and opposition political representatives, The OAS High Level Group issued a statement in which they urged “all Peruvian political actors to dialogue”.
The mission also reported that prepare a report with the corresponding analysis and that it will be presented “as soon as possible” to the Permanent Council of the OAS “to fulfill the mandate received.”
“All meetings were held in a climate of cordiality and maximum respect for the Constitution, sovereignty, the rule of law, institutions and, above all, Peruvian citizenship. The group received a large amount of very valuable information from all its interlocutors, on which it refrained from commenting, and that you will now process to prepare your report”, expresses the pronouncement.
