MIAMI, United States. — The Member of the Provincial Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in Pinar del Río, Leonardo Rivera Menawas replaced as first secretary of that body in the municipality of San Juan y Martínez barely a month after being appointed to the position.
According to the provincial newspaper GuerrillaIn his place, Yoandy Cueto Martínez, a 43-year-old agronomist who “accumulates experience in political and administrative management,” was appointed.
The official media indicates that Cueto Martínez has worked as a cadre in the municipality of Mantua, where he has served as director of the base business units, Technical Services of the Forestry Company and in the Assurance of the Agricultural Company.
The official also “has gone through different responsibilities from the base, being an official, a member of the municipal bureau for attention to services and first secretary in Mantua.”
Guerrilla He adds that, “as part of his preparation,” Yoandy Cueto Martínez “studied at the Ñico López Higher School of the Party” and “has participated in training at the Provincial Committee.”
The appointment of Cueto Martínez was made official during the last plenary session of the Municipal Committee of the PCC in San Juan y Martínez, at the proposal of the Commission of Cadres of the Central Committee of the Party.
The newspaper from Pinar del Río highlights that the plenary session was chaired by Yamilé Ramos Cordero, Member of the Central Committee of the Party and First Secretary in the province, and Arael Palomino Echevarría, Head of the Department of Organization and Politics of Cadres of the Provincial PCC.
In the case of Leonardo Rivera Mena, appointed first secretary of the PCC in San Juan y Martínez after the passage of Hurricane Ian, “he joins the performance of his responsibilities,” according to the published note.
