Pablo Milanés will be buried in the Las Rozas cemetery, in Spain

MIAMI, United States. – The prestigious Cuban singer-songwriter Pablo Milanés, died in the early morning of November 22 (Spanish peninsular time), he will be buried in the Las Rozas cemetery, near Madrid, according to family sources confirmed to the independent newspaper 14ymedio.

Milanés’ brother-in-law, the Spanish actor Federico Pérez Rey, also confirmed to the press that the troubadour would be buried in Spain. “He will be buried here, in strict privacy, and what happens later we will see,” he said, without giving information about the place of burial or whether Milanés preferred to rest in Spain or Cuba, according to an EFE report.

This Wednesday, hundreds of people came to the Casa de América in Madrid, where the burning chapel of Milanés was installed. Friends, relatives, personalities from culture and politics, as well as lovers of his music, came to the place to say their last goodbye to one of the greatest Cuban artists of all time.

The Cuban ambassador in Spain, Marcelino Medina, also went to Casa de América, where he spoke to the press. The official of the Cuban regime assured: Pablo “was one of the founders of Nueva Trova, that movement of young composers who, with the Revolution, burst onto the scene with songs that are today the symbol of an entire generation, but which was also received with great respect, with great admiration for today’s younger generations.”

Asked if the Cuban government would offer any official tribute to Milanés, he said: “I have no information about it.” Regarding the decision to bury the singer-songwriter in Spain, he assured that it was “a personal will that must be respected.”

This Wednesday, the coffin with the mortal remains of the author of classics such as “Yolanda” and “Para vivir” arrived at 10:00 in the morning. Shortly after, a line of hundreds of people entered. A photograph of Pablo Milanés, a guitar and numerous wreaths of flowers accompanied the coffin.

The Cuban violinist, arranger and producer Dagoberto González, one of the many personalities who came to pay tribute, explained to CubaNet who was with Pablo for much of his life.

Among the personalities who attended the posthumous tribute was the Argentine singer-songwriter and film director Fito Páez, who referred to Pabló Milanés as “a brother, a friend.”

In statements to the press upon his arrival at the funeral chapel, Páez described the troubadour as “a machine for making perfect songs.”

The Spanish singer-songwriter and actress Massiel, who was very close to Pablo Milanés, also spoke emotional words: “Pablo was so human, like a little ball of love and sensitivity, Silvio Rodríguez marked more distances, but Pablo was like something you wanted to caress. and play all the time.
