Anahí Durand and Lourdes Huanca met with the OAS High Level Group

The spokespersons of the Women for a New Constitution group met this Wednesday with the High Level Group of the in the framework of their visit to Peru in the face of the political crisis.

The former Minister of Women Anahi Durand indicated that they presented before the OAS working group on the political harassment suffered by women in the country. In addition, she said that they emphasized a way out of the crisis.

We have exposed our point of view on the crisis, particularly of women who have been suffering political harassment, who have been excluded for so long. Durand also explained that they let the OAS know that the instances of dialogue, such as the Council of State and the National Agreement, are deteriorated and are not representative of the social actors. “So we need to open new spaces for dialogue”, he added.

Before the meeting, Lourdes Huancaalso a spokesperson for this group and president of the National Federation of Rural Women, stressed that they requested a meeting with the High Level Group to express their struggle for democracy and governability.

We have asked to be part of this meeting with the OAS to state that we as original indigenous peoples have voted for President Pedro Castillo to serve five yearsthat’s why we’re here”, he pointed out to the media.

“At the same time, we also manifest how we are being psychologically mistreated before our families, the leaders, according to how we are fighting for our democracy and governability,” added Huanca.
