The Interunion and Business Committee of Valle del Cauca (Ciev) asked the Government to intervene immediately on the road to Buenaventura due to the delicate situation that arises after landslides.

“The social situation of Buenaventura and the surrounding municipalities has worsened due to
the impacts of the winter emergency, which not only affects the communities that
are not in risk areas but the entire population, due to the closure of the Simón
Bolívar registered since last October 27“, explains the Ciev through a statement.
For now, the only way in and out of Buenaventura is Mediacanoa, a corridor that which mobilizes 50,000 tons per day and that “it is saturated” with a traffic of 6 thousand vehicles per day. Likewise, this road is affected by constant landslides that impair normal traffic.
Added to this situation, the organization added, are the blockades carried out by indigenous and/or Afro-descendant communities due to requests they have before the National Government, lto more recent in Cisneros and La Delfina.

The unions and businessmen affiliated with the Ciev stated that they “It is extremely worrying that at this time the people of Buenos Aires cannot adequately access basic rights such as health, food, work and public services due to this situation.”
They also call for the impacts on the economic activity of the port, since for each day that the road is blocked or closed the losses amount to approximately $5 billion in the trade, tourism and logistics sectors which, for the most part, are made up of MSMEs.
Finally, the Ciev reminds the Government of the importance of the port of Buenaventura that “plays a key role in the Colombian economy by mobilizing 37 percent of foreign trade, so the situation of this city and its inhabitants must be a priority for the National Government“.
