Lawyers nullify legal action against Interior and Police

Santo Domingo, DR – The Bar Association of the Dominican Republic (CARD) and the Primero Justicia Foundation welcomed the decision of the Ministry of Interior and Police to revoke Resolution 007-2022, which restricted the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages in the Santo Domingo province, which was cataloged as illegal, unconstitutional and an attempt against citizen rights by both unions.

Miguel Surun Hernández, president of CARD and the Foundation, announced that the union dismissed the legal action against the Ministry of the Interior and Police before the Superior Administrative Court, after the institution revoked the measure, after two meetings with the merchants from the area.

Surun Hernández reported that the Interior and Police Resolution affected more than 56,000 owners and employees of bars and restaurants in the Santo Domingo province, many of whom would go bankrupt if it were maintained.

The trade unionist recalled that Resolution 007-2022 violated the freedom to work, business, transit, equality, and the legality of public acts contemplated in articles 6, 39, 40, 50, 62 and 139 of the Constitution .

The President of the Card warned that in the event that the Ministry of the Interior and Police try again to adopt measures that violate the fundamental rights of citizens, the DR Bar Association and the Primero Justicia Foundation will submit it again to justice , to guarantee compliance with the Law and the Constitution of the Republic.

Surun Hernández stressed that in the DR we live in a rule of law in which officials and citizens in general must abide by the Constitutional order.
