Representatives of political parties met on Tuesday in the National Congress to continue negotiating the continuation of the constituent process. At the meeting, they agreed to create a commission of electoral experts -whose members will be elected by the communities- that will propose a drafting mechanism for the new Magna Carta.
“What we have agreed in today’s meeting is to set up a technical, transversal working group of all the parties with parliamentary representation that are at this table, to fine-tune the details regarding gradually bringing the positions of these different proposals closer, especially in the electoral aspect”, explained the deputy Raul Soto (PPD).

“Understanding that there is no peremptory term, we are going to continue, and if this is not closed in November, we will have to continue until the process is generated,” added the pro-government legislator.
Let us remember that one of the great limits in the conversations is the drafting mechanism for the new Constitution. The ruling party plus the DC propose that the new drafting body be made up of 99 members; Chile Vamos, 50, while Democrats raises 60. Of course, there is a coincidence that he is 100% elected.
For its part, the Yellows for Chile collective proposed yesterday that Congress elect a Constituent Council, in charge of drafting the new Magna Carta.
Regarding the deadlines, there is also uncertainty. Everything indicates that it will not be reached in November, as the ruling party intended. The president of UDI, Javier Macayasaid on Monday: “if rushing means doing things wrong and making the mistakes that were made in the previous process, I prefer not to reach an agreement in November.”
