Sembrando Program delivered diplomas to participants of the business English course

In the second edition of the business English course, the Sembrando program awarded certificates to the students who participated in the training, 681 who completed at least one module and 95, the entirety. Foreign Minister Bustillo stressed that knowledge of the aforementioned language has become a fundamental requirement for the international insertion of entrepreneurs.

The Minister of Foreign Relations, Francisco Bustillo; the executive director of Sembrando, Andrea Bellolio; the charge d’affaires of the United States Embassy, Karl Ríos, and the general director of the Uruguay-United States Cultural Alliance, Luciano Bermúdez.

This initiative, designed in 2021 in order to provide practical knowledge of oral and written English to entrepreneurs from the 19 departments of Uruguay and promote international trade, was replicated in 2022, sponsored by the Embassy of the United States, supported by the Bank Inter-American Development Program and executed by the Uruguay-United States Cultural Alliance.

This year, unlike the previous one, the program was divided into two levels. The students participated in the online modality, with synchronous and asynchronous sessions, led by experts in topics related to entrepreneurship.

At the event, Foreign Minister Bustillo stated that “strengthening the capacity of entrepreneurs in the management of the English language is a fundamental tool to achieve a highly competitive and digitized international trade system.”

In addition, he maintained that, currently, one in four people in the world communicates in that language. In this sense, it is possible to affirm that, more than a competitive advantage, the knowledge of business English became a fundamental requirement to guarantee the global insertion of any businessman or entrepreneur, he considered.

He mentioned that, of the 400 scholarships awarded, 397 people will receive their certificates and that this level of excellence is expected to be maintained in 2023. He added that this program coincides with the public policy of attracting foreign direct investment.

Bellolio, meanwhile, stressed that this course is being held for the second consecutive year and that its greatest virtue is that it reaches the entire country. Likewise, he highlighted that the participants from the interior of the country receive the diplomas at the same time as those from Montevideo.

Certificates were awarded to the 681 participants who completed at least one module and to the 95 who completed the course. The Sembrando program executed, after 30 months of work, 2,690 scholarships.
