While the Government looks the other way, the export of drugs from Paraguay continues

The Uruguayan government reported the seizure of 653 kilos of cocaine in the port of Montevideo, which came in a container from Paraguay. Meanwhile, the Paraguayan authorities turn a blind eye to the drug problem.

The shipment valued at US$ 24.5 million was camouflaged with meat (the main Paraguayan export product) and had Russia as its final destination, with a stopover in Belgium.

The National Naval Prefecture and the National Customs Directorate of Uruguay led the operation; the director of the latter entity, Jaime Borgiani, explained at a press conference that the cargo was scanned after receiving intelligence informationand that from these images there were indications that there could be merchandise that was not declared, in addition to the adulteration of security seals.

“The prosecutor Mónica Ferrero was informed, who authorized the opening of that container that brought refrigerated meat of Paraguayan origin, whose declared final destination was Russia, Saint Petersburg, and made a stopover in the port of Antwerp. From the verification is that 600 bricks of pure cocaine were found and one of the elements that, until now, had not appeared. These are cloned seals to be placed after the alleged discharge of that drug”, the director specified.

Borgiani recalled that “in the month of October we seized a significant amount of drugs that wanted to be entered into the port of Montevideo and based on intelligence work that we have been developing in this work team, we had the information that a load could come from Paraguay. that it could come contaminated”.

Regarding the cloned seals, the report explains that one of the checks that are made is whether the seals placed at source are the same ones that arrive at destination. This ensures that the container was not opened during the trip.
