“Culture in Cuba is mourning the death of Pablo Milanés, renowned Cuban singer-songwriter, one of the founders of the Nueva Trova Movement. Our most heartfelt condolences reach your family and friends,” Manuel Marrero, prime minister of the regime, wrote on the same social network.

Despite the critical stance assumed by the troubadour against the Cuban dictatorship in recent decades, state institutions and the official press did not ignore the death of Pablo, who was, along with Silvio Rodríguez, one of the founders of the movement of New Trova.
“Author of a monumental work, his musical legacy constitutes an inescapable reference of Cuban identity and culture and his songs and masterful interpretations are part of the soundtrack of the Cuban Revolution in their own right,” said the Ministry of Culture (MINCULT) in a note published this Tuesday.
The entity highlights that the death of Pablo Milanés “occurs just as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of that extraordinary cultural event that was the Foundation of the Nueva Trova Movement, of which he is one of the fundamental pillars.”
“Pablo was a great poet, a great singer. His musical work is immortal, ”adds the MINCULT statement.
