This Tuesday, November 22, the High Level Group of the Organization of American States (OAS) issued a statement stating that their interviews in Peru had ended. In it, they exhort “dialogue to all Peruvian political actors”.
In this sense, the mission of the international organization reported that it will prepare a report with the corresponding analysis and that it will be presented “as soon as possible” to the Permanent Council of the OAS “to fulfill the mandate received.”
“While the report is prepared in a timely manner, the mission will continue to monitor the situation and remains available to all stakeholders”, reads the shared press release.
During the stay of the delegation of the High Level Group in Peru, indicated that they have maintained 27 meetings —between Monday and Tuesday— in order to “listen to the largest number of representative voices” from the country.
“All LThe meetings were held in a climate of cordiality and maximum respect for the Constitution, sovereignty, the rule of law, institutions and, above all, the Peruvian citizenry. The group received a large amount of very valuable information from all its interlocutors, on which it refrained from giving an opinion, and which it will now process to prepare its report ”, it reads elsewhere.
At another time, they make a count of the authorities with whom they met. Among them is the President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo; the head of Congress Joseph Williams; the president of the judiciary, Elvia Barrios; the national prosecutor Patricia Benavides; among other actors.
They also indicated that they received other points of view on the situation in the country in writing, “which will also be processed in the preparation of the report.”
“The members thank the Peruvian authorities for their openness and collaboration so that the mission could carry out its work. In addition, they thank all the actors with whom they met for their willingness and constructive spirit to share information. and their points of view on the situation in Peru”, they conclude.
Who made up the OAS mission?
The High Level Group —which arrived on Sunday, November 20— is made up of the foreign ministers of Argentina, Santiago Cafiero; of belize, Eamon Courtenay; of Ecuador, Juan Carlos Holguin; of Guatemala, Mario Adolfo Bucaro; and of ParaguayanJulio Cesar Arriola.
Likewise, there is the Vice Minister of Multilateral Affairs of Colombia, Laura Gil; the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Costa Rica, Christian Guillermet; and the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Paraguayan Eladio Loizaga, who will officiate as representative of the OAS General Secretariat.
