27N: Some dates are odd

27N, Cuba

Havana Cuba. – There are dates that do not match, dates that are incomparable, that are unique within the historiography of a country, of a people, of an individual. Who does not keep in his memory some day of any month and any year? And it is that there are dates that are accompanied by many transcendences, and even faith. There are dates that have so much fame that they become unique, that they become incomparable. There are big, ideal dates, and we all have one of those.

A big date can be one’s own birth or that of the mother and father, that of grandparents or children. A big date can be related to the greatest love and the first meeting, even with separation and death. There are dates that are celebrated in almost the entire world, such as the birth of Jesus, even when there are those who speculate about the date that Christianity set millennia ago; but its faithful gather at La Misa del Gallo every December 24 to celebrate the birth of Jesus, to wait for him in communion.

For me there are also memorable dates: the birth of my paternal grandparents, the birth of my parents, and even mine, the one that many times I wish would not come, especially since Cuban life frightens any celebration that does not have coincidences with events. of the “post-revolutionary” era. In Cuba, an attack on a barracks is celebrated, even though it has left many dead, and a battle in Girón is praised, and the triumph of something that they stubbornly continue to call “Revolution.”

In Cuba, they stopped celebrating Christmas, and celebrations that went beyond the “communist calendar” became dangerous. In Cuba, Camilo and Che Guevara, Vilma Espín and above all Fidel Castro are flattered, who apparently did “transcendent” things 365 days a year. And in Cuba most of us live with our backs to the almanac, and each day is just as sad as its predecessor.

I don’t even remember the exact date of birth of my children, which are my books and my dog, so I can’t even celebrate that in the country of so many bombastic “celebrations”, all false. And so much falsehood puts my senses on alert, like right now. It turns out that the celebration of the assemblies to nominate those candidates for delegates to the municipal assemblies of “popular power” has already been announced, which we already know are farces, that they are prepared, and in which the Party recommends its faithful, with very low voice, who should be their candidates for delegates to the municipal assemblies.

What is most curious to me this time is that these assemblies will be held on November 27, and let us remember then that 27N on the outskirts of the Ministry of Culture. Let us remember that that day a lot of artists and writers gathered in front of that house that, before becoming a Ministry, was the residence of Julio Lobo, and that the Revolution stole it to put there, some time later, the “Ministry of Culture” that “directs” a “minister” who responds to the name of Alpidio Alonso.

We all know what happened that day, and also during the next, and in the subsequent ones. Let’s remember Alpidio’s slap, let’s remember the seizure of a cell phone and the blow that prevented the resistance to the theft of the cell phone. Let’s remember the reactions throughout Cuba and in the outside world, let’s remember… And will the bosses want us to remember? Will the bosses allow that day to be marked by the outrages of power? No no and no…

Power wants to erase that courageous event and already fixed, without a doubt, in Cuban history. Power wants to supplant its meanings and signifiers. If the community of artists and writers went to dialogue and received reprisals, then they will try to erase those facts forever. One will have to supplant the other, and I think that is why they chose next November 27 to begin the assemblies for the nomination of candidates for delegates to the “Municipal Assemblies of People’s Power”; two diametrically opposed events between the stories of the same day.

The best thing for them is to look for, to try a substitute event as far removed from the previous one as possible and to the opinion of those of us who “are more”, of which “we are many”. The 27N left traces that could be revisited, retaken; but they try to get out of their way, counteract what could come. Any public evocation would then be an attack against the elections, and would give a tint of legitimacy to the repression. “Say P…, before they tell you”, that’s how we Cubans say.

It is nonsense that they suppose that they can achieve it, it is a mental masturbation or, as a friend would say, a brain masturbation. If they really believe that they will succeed, it is because they are very upset. They, like faith, take all the risks; but unlike faith, they turn out to be foolish. 27N, without a doubt, will survive in Cuban history, while those “assemblies” will be forgotten because some dates are singular and others are not; because some dates are odd, unequal, and others have predicaments that are irrevocable.
