An increase in cases of smallpox has been detected in Panama, to mitigate contagion through the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI) the Ministry of Health (Minsa), reported that to date, 21 doses of vaccine against the illness.
The PAI indicated that these doses were applied 14 doses in the Metropolitan Health Region; five (5) in West Panama; one (1) in Chiriquí and one (1) in San Miguelito.
They add that there are 15 new cases of monkeypox reported in the country, for a total of 48 accumulated cases.
Of the 48, 27 cases are active in compliance with isolation. Of these 27 active cases, 5 are hospitalized due to their clinical condition and risk factors; 22 carry out home isolation.
The new cases correspond to males between the ages of 25 and 59 and come from the metropolitan health region, Panama West and San Miguelito; they were clinically evaluated with samples taken for analysis in various health facilities.
The samples were analyzed at the Dr. Arnulfo Arias Madrid Hospital, Santo Tomás Hospital, Irma de Lourdes Tzanetatos Hospital, Dr. Carlos Brin Polyclinic, Santiago Barraza Polyclinic, JJ Vallarino Polyclinic, Río Abajo Health Center, Guillermo Lewis Health Center, Romulo Roux Health Center.
