This Monday 21, the commemorative act of the Day of the Police Fallen in Line of Duty took place. At the ceremony, which was attended by the Secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado, the troops who died this year were remembered and medals of honor were awarded to their families. The Minister of the Interior, Luis A. Heber, pointed out that the troops are characterized by risking their lives to maintain peace of mind.
The act, developed in the sports center of the National Police School, was also attended by the Undersecretary of the Interior, Guillermo Maciel; the general director of that portfolio, Nicolás Martinelli; the head of the National Police, Diego Fernández, and the director of Coexistence and Citizen Security, Santiago González.
When the event began, the names of the three soldiers who lost their lives in 2022 in defense of the community were mentioned, and the authorities presented the medals of honor to the families.
In his speech, Heber stressed that the solemnity of the act is due to the importance of the Police for life. He pointed out that in this profession the troops risk their lives to maintain peace of mind and enforce the Constitution of the Republic. “It is a sad day for us”, manifested. He added that in 2022 there were three soldiers who died in these circumstances, which left their loved ones with a void that is difficult to fill.
“When there is a fall in the line of duty, we all fall”, emphasized. Likewise, he informed that he attends, on a regular basis, to visit the hospitalized personnel and highlighted the professionalism of the medical staff of the Police Hospital.
He added that there are many cases of police officers injured in the fight against crime and that some are torn between life and death. “When one of them recovers, our souls return to our bodies for not losing a life,” he said. He also opined that the Social Security regime of the Police should assist those who carry out a task that is very different from that of other State officials.
Today three troops are fired who will be remembered in the heart, because they are an example of service and dedication, said the hierarch. “They honor the country, they take the laurels, they are the protagonists of peace and tranquility,” he considered.
