The head of the European Union (EU) delegation in Venezuela, Rafael Dochao Moreno, said this Tuesday, November 22, that he agrees that it is a “good time” to act and reach agreements in Venezuela, as he said in recent days. the EU High Commissioner for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrellbecause it is known that there are “advances” in the negotiations between Chavismo and the Venezuelan opposition.
In an interview granted to Circuit HitsDochao Moreno stressed that Mexico is not the only place where talks are taking place between the Venezuelan political factions, but that meetings are held in Caracas on a daily basis.
He stressed that, although nothing can be announced until “everything is ready” for the return to Mexico, there is an announcement that must wait for the new stage of the dialogue to make official the activation of blocked money belonging to Venezuela for the order of 3,000 million dollars in order to be able to provide humanitarian aid to the population.
For this reason, Borrel and Dochao agree that there is a “good moment” because the parties agree on this matter and he reiterated that the recommendations made by the EU Electoral Observation Mission on the regional elections on 21 September are on the table. In this sense, the head of the EU delegation hopes that the return to Mexico can be confirmed soon and the humanitarian attention for Venezuelans can be carried out.
He also ratified that the EU delivered a donation of 200,000 euros for the victims of the rains in Venezuela through the Venezuelan Red Cross, which benefits 1,400 families, where the multilateral organization receives the financing and transforms it into inputs to deliver them to those affected. .
He also spoke about the 30 million euros that the EU allocated in humanitarian aid to Venezuela, of some 210 million that goes to other regions of the world. Dochao Moreno said that, although resources are needed in the South American country, the war in Ukraine led to the delivery of less money.
As it became known on November 14, this new aid package, which increases the EU contributions to 8,000 million between 2020 and 2024, has the objective of satisfying the “growing needs” of 15 countries at risk of famine, such as Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Nigeria, South Sudan, Somalia or Yemen.
The transfers, which will also go to Burkina Faso, Mali, Chad, the Central African Republic, Sudan, Lebanon, and Syria, also include 30 million euros for Latin America, which will serve “to meet the most urgent needs of the population, both within and outside the country”, especially in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, the Commission specified.
