The National Statistics Office (ONE) works with two very different scenarios in the provinces where the Tenth Census National Survey of Population and Housing has been carried out smoothly and those that are lagging behind due to various problems.
Victor Romerodirector of Census, reported yesterday that in 26 provinces the census is in its final phase, achieving a coverage of the population of approximately 80%. At the other extreme, there are six provinces in which it will be necessary to extend the process.
Those locations are Santiago, Santo Domingo, the National District, Puerto Plata, La Altagracia and San Cristóbal.
To make up for lost time, this entity is using strategies to maximize daily production. One of them is to extend the data collection period during the day.
The abandonment of the work of a significant number of enumerators has caused delays, aggravated by the difficulties in finding people in provinces where there is a lot of economic dynamism and many occupations.
The ONE It could take more days than the two initially planned for the recovery of the coverage.
“We have an estimate of the days that we are going to require, and in due time we will say how much it is, but we do have an estimate,” explained the director of the Census.
Foreign
Registering foreigners continues to be very difficult for the staff of the ONEespecially now that the Dominican government has intensified the deportations of Haitian nationals, as Romero has admitted.
“Generally, foreign populations, regardless of legal status, are not very open to the issue of censuses. We have a large proportion of illegal foreign citizens, so that exacerbates ”, she maintains.
Romero understands that “the same conflicts and situations that have developed in recent days also further complicates the scenario.”
