Russia awaits US response on security guarantees

The culmination of the exchanges was the dialogue the day before in Geneva between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Joe Biden, who promised that Washington would deliver its views on Moscow’s initiatives next week.

At a press conference after the meeting, the Russian official stressed that this was one of the commitments made by the White House, although, according to what he said, the US side once again limited any progress in the negotiations to the issue of the alleged threat of invasion of its country to Ukraine.

“Our American colleagues again tried to prioritize the problems on the Russian-Ukrainian border, they tried to condition everything else on the need for the so-called de-escalation. This has already happened to be a type of spell, “he said.

He warned that at the moment any debate on relations between Moscow and Washington is reduced to the situation in Ukraine. “In US-Russian relations it all comes down to how Zelensky (Vladimir, the president of Ukraine) and his regime feel. It is not correct,” he stressed.

The head of Russian diplomacy pointed out that his country will not be able to assess whether its contacts with Washington are on the right or wrong path until it receives written responses from the United States to all the points mentioned in the draft agreements delivered to the party. American.

Accusations and speculation about Russia’s imminent attack on Ukraine flowed from the US presidency, the State Department and the Pentagon in a uniform chorus that was also joined by its allies in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

The recent announcement of military exercises between Russia and Belarus, from February 10 to 20, on the territory of the latter, fanned the flame of propaganda on the subject.

A senior US State Department official added fuel to the fire when she stated that the upcoming joint exercises between the two countries could allow the Russian side to attack Kiev from the north.

Meanwhile, in Kiev, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitri Kuleva confirmed that US military aid to his country in 2021 was 650 million dollars, the highest since 2014.

The official stressed this Thursday that the White House promised that it will continue to strengthen the defensive capabilities of his country, including with lethal weapons.

Kuleva’s words took place when Russia has denounced that the militarization of Ukraine constitutes one of its “red lines”, that is, a first-level threat to its territory, and demanded that Washington cease arms deliveries to Kiev.
