The Minister of Energy and Mines, Antonio Almonterevealed that from January 2023 all renewable contracts will be awarded through competition or bidding.
“They will be competitive tenders that, based on the prices they offer and other conditions, the contracts will be awarded to developers of renewable sources”he assured.
He explained that the Dominican Republic has a practically absolute dependence on the production of electricity from imported fossil fuels, whose prices and logistical access the country does not have any type of control or influence, “it is simply what they allow to achieve.” He pointed out that the foregoing means a very serious dependence on energy matters for the Dominican economy, on events that can occur abroad.
Almonte spoke after leading the inauguration of the solar panel installations at the European Union headquarters in the country.
