The Tigres del Licey once again climbed to first place in the tournament by beating the Estrellas Orientales 6-4 during a match held at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium.
With their victory, the Tigres (20-8) tied for first place in the tournament with the Águilas (22-10), who lost their match last night against the Gigantes del Cibao at the Cibao Stadium. Ronny Mauricio led the offensive attack for the Tigers by connecting a homer, single and producing three runs.
Meanwhile, Cristian Paché was the most outstanding player for the Stars, who in his debut had three hits, including two doubles, in four visits to the batter’s box, with one RBI and another scored. Guillermo Heredia also had a good performance with the green flag team, hitting 3-for-4 with two RBIs produced, and José Tena, whose only unstoppable was a triple.
The victory corresponded to reliever Carlos Contreras (1-0) by working two blank innings of one hit and three strikeouts. He lost Luis González (0-1) by giving up the game to the Tigers in the fifth round. Jairo Asencio was credited with the save by throwing the ninth scoreless.
In Santiago, the Águilas broke a streak of ten victories in their stadium by losing by shutout (6-0) against the Giants.
Luis Liberato led the way to victory by hitting a two-run home run in the sixth for the Giants who sit firmly in third place in the standings. Kelvin Gutiérrez was also key in victory number 15, pushing two laps.
The victory was credited to reliever Luis Santos (1-0), while the setback was for Yunesky Maya (2-1).
In La Romana, Raúl Valdés pitched six scoreless innings, Ronny Simón and Rodolfo Castro drove in runs, so that the Toros del Este maintained their dominance over the Leones del Escogido, achieving a 3-1 victory, in a match held at the Francisco Micheli Stadium .
The pitching of the Bulls had an excellent presentation by starter Raúl Valdés (2-2, 2.25) throwing six scoreless innings, allowed nine hits, two walks, and struck out six batters. With this win, Valdés is tied for sixth place all-time in wins (52) with Danilo Rivas.
