Santo Domingo,- The Dominican Institute for Quality (INDOCAL) and Mercados Dominicanos de Abasto Agropecuario (Mercadom) signed an inter-institutional agreement, with the objective of applying quality standards through the certification services of Good Hygiene and Manufacturing Practices in public markets, that guarantee that the products offered to the population are safe for consumption.
The agreement was signed by the general director of Indocal, Eng. Lorenzo Ramírez Uribe and the general administrator of Mercadom, Eng. Sócrates Díaz Castillo.
The agreement also establishes the verification and calibration by INDOCAL of the measuring instruments and scales used in retail, bulk and truck sales, in the commercial establishments of the Mercadom, in order to guarantee fair trade. .
For its part, Mercadom is committed to accepting each of the Indocal standards, requesting training for all the institution’s staff, implementing the management systems and including the item for maintaining certifications in the annual budgets.
Díaz Castillo assured that the agreement is part of the new vision of the Government of President Luis Abinader, to present tangible changes to society that contribute to improving the quality of life of Dominicans.
While Ramírez stated that this alliance will have a direct impact on the final consumer, by making tools available to producers that will allow them to deliver high-quality products.
Through the agreement, INDOCAL also undertakes to offer support for the selection and inspection management of thermometers for refrigeration and food preservation.
