Constitution Commission enters fourth intermission until 11:00 this Tuesday

The Constitution Commission declared a new intermediate quarter until the Tuesday at 11:00. After two hours of work, this Monday night, after having reinstated the session, which had been paused around noon. This commission must analyze the proposed census laws, presented by both the ruling party and the opposition.

The first quarter intermission of this session determined that it had to be restarted at 16:00; however, it started five hours later.

The discontent of the opposition parliamentarians was expressed through social networks; they described as “procrastination tricks”, the measures used by the Movimiento Al Socialismo, alluding to the two pauses in the discussion. Deputies from Comunidad Ciudadana and Creemos had suggested that the treatment of proposals were made by time and materialabut this was ruled out by the president of the commission, Juan José Jáuregui.

During the last half hour of the session, there were moments of tension when words and insults were exchanged between the deputy Erwin Bazán and the ruling party parliamentarians Patricio Mendoza and Miriam Martínez. This occurred after the MAS deputy, Patricio Mendoza, observed the three projects and then indicated that they should be dealt with in the Planning commission and not in the Constitutionwhich was installed on Monday.

Tatiana Áñez, deputy for Creemos, regretted the commission’s actions “With the plan that the MAS has, not to carry out a census in the country; they are opposing even their own law. Apparently, the interests of the MAS are above the interests of the country,” he told the media at the end of the day.

Both Áñez and Carlos Alarcón, deputy from Comunidad Ciudadana, questioned that the MAS avoids promulgating a law, since in their opinion, the last supreme decree issued by President Luis Arce can be replaced without problem, as happened with the two previous ones, it is that is: the one that determined that the census would be carried out on November 16 and the one that moved the date to June 2024.

Touching midnight, when the second intermission quarter was determined, there was another threat of a lawsuit.
