The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, receives this Monday afternoon a delegation from the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), headed by its Director General, David Muldrow Beasley.
The meeting that takes place in Office 1 of the Miraflores Palace aims to strengthen cooperation with that UN body.
In this sense, Venezuela and the WFP signed a cooperation agreement on April 19, 2021 to provide nutritious school meals to vulnerable minors in the country, in addition to the staff of educational centers.
Likewise, WFP’s food assistance in Venezuela is focused on young people between 6 months and 6 years of age enrolled in preschools, students of schools for people with special needs, and the staff of said institutions: administrators, teachers, cooks, and workers.
Also present are the WFP Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, María Dolores Castro Benítez; the WFP representative in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Laura Melo, among other delegates.
On the Venezuelan side, the first combatant, Cilia Flores, and the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, attended.
Recently, the Venezuelan Head of State highlighted that the country has made progress in food production and sovereignty, through policies such as the Food Mission, the AgroVenezuela Mission, the Local Supply and Production Committees (CLAP) and Food Houses.
“We are going with everything for the export goal, all thanks to the collective effort to consolidate the productive forces of the Homeland on a clear path. To produce is to win and we are winning!” He stated through his Twitter account @NicolasMaduro.
For the third quarter of 2022, Venezuela registered an advance in the production of 11,145,000 tons of food, of which 7,800,000 correspond to the agricultural sector and 3,342,000 to the livestock sector.
