The Vice President of Nicaragua, Rosario Murillo, congratulated the Brazilian economist Ilan Goldfajn, who on Sunday, November 20, was elected as president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
The international financial organization is one of the entities that has most oxygenated the Ortega regime. Following the passage of Hurricane Julia, on October 28, the IDB authorized a disbursement of 10 million dollars to the Nicaraguan dictatorship to address the economic losses caused by the natural phenomenon.

“Our Minister of Finance, comrade Iván Acosta, as governor of the Inter-American Development Bank, participated together with 48 member countries of the Bank, electing brother Ilan Goldfajn, as president of the IDB for a period of five years,” said the first lady. .
Giving credit to the sanctioned Minister of Finance, the deputy dictator reported that the letter of congratulations “on behalf of our people and government” has already been sent to brother Ilan Goldfajn, who on behalf of Brazil, had run and was elected as president of the IDB ” .
The objective, according to Murillo, of the new president of the IDB is “to address the challenges and challenges, prioritizing climate change, food security, education, more job opportunities, (…) and to maximize the impact of the Inter-American Development Bank group to offer comprehensive services that attend to emergencies and the most pressing needs”.
Ortega regime “oxygenated” by banks
Specialists have affirmed that Ortega continues his onslaught against the Nicaraguan people for feeling financially “supported” by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank (WB) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), in addition to CABEI.
Given this, US congressman Albio Sires urged these entities to “take measures” to stop financing the “infrastructure of oppression” of the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo.

According to Sires, since 2018 the Ortega regime has received some $1.2 billion in loans under the pretext of poverty reduction, disaster relief, and support for small businesses.
“Nicaraguan dictator Daniel Ortega and his cronies have flagrantly violated human rights and international law. However, his government continues to receive financing from institutions such as the IMF, WB and IDB,” criticized the US official on his Twitter account.
