The First Committee of the Senate held a public hearing to hear the different positions of experts and State entities on a legislative act with which it is intended legalize and regulate the recreational use of cannabis.
The initiative would have the majorities so that it can be approved in the third debate in that corporation and for it to continue its process in Congress.

The Minister of Justice, Nestor Osuna, He also confirmed that the proposal has the support of the Government of Gustavo Petro, whose principle is to propose a new approach in the fight against drugs.
“The Government approves a constitutional reform project that is being processed to regulate the adult use of cannabis eliminating the prohibition that exists in this regard in the Constitution”, he indicated.
“We are convinced that a regulation that takes into account both problematic and non-problematic consumption problems, That they regulate the figure in such a way that it is for adult use, it is much better than the prohibition”Osuna added.
The government official affirmed that the prohibitionist policy that exists today in relation to the consumption of cannabis has generated failures in the health care system for addicts.

“Prohibition has not managed to stop consumption, stop commerce, but it has achieved all those stigmas of illegality and lack of attention to consumers. that can be avoided if this is approved,” he said.
If the initiative is approved in the third debate in the First Committee of the Senate, it will go to study by the plenary of the corporation, which will decide if this constitutional reform should continue its process in the second round next year.
