Cuba’s main marathon race, Marabana, started today in Havana at 6:30 in the morning. In its 36th edition, the participation of more than 2,500 runners is reported.
Carlos Gattorno, director of the Marabana/Maracuba National Running and Walking Commission (CNCC), said that 554 foreigners will be present, and that 465 traveled expressly to Havana to take the start.
He added that these marathon runners are from 51 countries, especially the United States, France, Switzerland, Spain and Colombia. More than 2,000 Cubans will run in Marabana 2022, which has a new circuit this year.
In its 35th edition, the Marathon was held on November 21, 2021 in person, but only with national runners and in compliance with health protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The route was then 13 km long, starting at Avenida Monserrate in front of the statue in Parque 13 de Marzo and finishing at the Ciudad Deportiva coliseum.
Marabana celebrates the 503rd Anniversary of the founding of the Villa de San Cristóbal de La Habana and the Day of Physical Culture and Sports.
