Novak Djokovic conquered the Masters for the sixth time, by defeating the young Norwegian Casper Ruud 7-5, 6-3, this Sunday in Turin, thus equaling Roger Federer’s title record in this tournament that brings together the eight best players of the season.

The 35-year-old Serbian ends like this in the best way a season cut short by his refusal to get vaccinated against the covid, in which he won his second major title of the year after Wimbledon.

Eighth in the ATP ranking during the tournament, the old N.1 will climb back to 5th place on Monday.

For his part, Casper Ruud lost his third grand final of the year, after Roland Garros and the US Open. But at 23 years old, 2022 is by far the best year of his career, as he reached second place in the ATP after Flushing Meadows and will be third on Monday.

The match began with a good exchange of blows, with both players holding their serve until the final stretch of the first set, when Djokovic broke his rival’s serve to win the set 7-5.

In the second set, ‘Nole’ was more aggressive at the beginning and made a ‘break’ in the fourth game, putting themselves 1-3 up and taking an advantage that they did not waste until placing the final 6-3 without conceding any ‘break’ point to their rival.
